The male giraffe upper-limit height is about 3.24 times your example height.

170 cm is a starting example, not an average. Only the stated measurement is scaled; outlines are original explanatory diagrams.

The numbers behind the picture

Make sense of big numbers

Your height is the starting point.

Enter your height, choose Height or Length, and add up to three objects beside your reference. Height compares vertical measurements from the stated base to the marked endpoint, including standing height, shoulder height or a sports fixture’s specified height. The endpoint may differ from the top of the outline. Length compares horizontal nose-to-tail or overall lengths.

In Length mode, your reference is a ruler equal to your height, not a person lying down. Use Zoom to inspect the diagram and Fit all to return to the full view. A tiny reference remains tiny: we never enlarge one object independently.

Each measured span equals its value in metres multiplied by the same scale factor. Width, shape, mass and volume are not being compared. Maximum animal sizes do not describe an average animal, and individual sizes vary.

A few good questions

Why does an object sometimes look almost invisible?

Large differences make small objects tiny at a truthful scale. Their name and measurement remain readable. Zoom enlarges the entire diagram equally.

Can I compare a whale’s length with a tower’s height?

These are different measurements. This version keeps them in separate modes so the picture does not imply a standing whale.

How reliable are these numbers?

We use linked primary sources from animal specialists, monument operators and manufacturers. Some are rounded upper limits, ranges or historical dimensions. Read the basis beside each value.

What does a maximum size mean?

An upper limit or range endpoint is not a typical animal. Our 40-object collection labels averages, upper limits, rule specifications and model dimensions separately. Different species and models have different measuring points.
